Herringbone parquet is a work of art, a true textile wonder under our feet. Its texture is so harmonious that it almost seems to breathe with us, following the rhythm of our steps.
Each herringbone floor plank is unique, featuring a precise geometric weave that repeats at regular intervals. The precision with which these parallelepipeds are arranged is the secret of the floor’s beauty.
Herringbone parquet is a symbol of elegance and class, a testament to craftsmanship that has withstood the wear and tear of time.
When walking on a herringbone floor, there is a sense of calm and stability. Every step seems to be perfectly planned, every movement synchronized with the geometric design of the floor. This feeling of order and harmony is what makes this floor a work of art in its own right.
It’s a type of parquet laying that is distinguished by its right-angle (90°) shape between its component planks. Each rectangular stave rests head-on on the side of the adjacent one, forming two rows of staves perpendicular to each other. This type of laying is also called “classical” and has been used in Italy since the 1st century AD, a time when the ancient Romans used it to lay bricks for roads.
Its ancient origin and historical use make it a symbol of Italian tradition and culture.
In this type of wood flooring, the laths have a fixed size and are inclined to each other by 45° on the short side.
The special feature of this type of flooring is that the joining of several rows of laths, creates a characteristic straight line in the center of the herringbone. This effect is achieved through the use of precisely sized elements and a constant angle of inclination between rows of laths.
This type of flooring requires some skill and care in laying, but once completed, it creates a unique and visually striking aesthetic effect.
Originated as an evolution and experiment of the French herringbone, the Hungarian herringbone’s slats are arranged at a 30° angle to the straight center line making it a very refined and elegant choice for interior flooring.
